A Year of Living Like Jesus: Praying for Healing
Posted by Nate Bush on Nov 24, 2009I enjoyed Ed Dobson’s book. What if Christians could isolate themselves away from their tribal, denominational, and family pressures and attempted to live biblically? I am always asking the question, but “what does the Bible say?” The answering of that question is an individual responsibility. I was in a theological debate one time with a close friend and professor. We represent two different theological tribes. I was arguing along “party lines,” if you will. At one point the professor paused and said, “can you give me a text for that?” I couldn’t. I just had to say, “I know it’s in there.” Read More…

New City: Monty Python and The Kingdom of God
Posted by Nate Bush on Nov 13, 2009To be honest, I have always struggled with the Kingdom of God. The phrase makes me think of a renaissance festival. I am freaked out by renaissance festivals. I dragged my family to such a festival a few years ago. I knew I had made bad decision when I saw the drunk man in period clothing chasing a woman whom he affectionally called his wench. Wench is the medieval term for a prostitute. It seems that many women at the festival took great pains to be sure that they could dress the part with accuracy. My mind links things together in categories. So my thought process goes something like this: Kingdom = renaissance festival = Monty Python. I can’t explain why it happens in this way, but you can see the hang up. When I meditate on the Kingdom of God, I am unable to contextualize it. My context for kingdom thinking includes Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Read More…
Chris Farley and the Power of Words
Posted by Nate Bush on Nov 03, 2009
Chris Farley’s biography has helped me to appreciate the power of my words. Chris Farley was a college icon of mine. We told and retold lines that he had spoken throughout his years on SNL and in his moves. We always found an occasion to sing “Fat Guy With a Little Coat.” I personally loved the Matt Foley sketch. You may remember the motivational speaker that “lived in a van down by the river.” Read More…

Movement

The church planters meeting at the Lobo was great. Mars Hill was very gracious to host us. It was great to catch up with church planters from around the City on Tuesday. I could tell immediately that God was up to something. There is an energy and even a profound discontent and easiness stirring in the hearts of missional men in our city. I hope that through meeting together we will find a synergy of God’s spirit moving a rag tag group of soldiers armed with the gospel message and driven by the mission to do good in God’s name and preach the good news about Jesus. Posted by Nate Bush on Sep 07, 2009Vanessa and I took the boys to the top of the mountain and to the Petroglyph National Monument. It was a great day. The petroglyphs date back to 1300 A.D. and earlier in some cases. It was really cool to see. Our mountain top experience was, well, a mountain top experience. A Moving Experience
Posted by Nate Bush on Aug 16, 2009
My son impressed me when we moved yesterday. Vanessa and I have moved twice in our marriage. The first time we moved was from Boca to Tamarac. Granted the distance between these two towns is only about 45 minutes. And in those days we didn’t have kids, just a little cat named Nemo. Evidently Nemo was scarred by that move. Once all of our stuff was tightly packed away in the PODS yesterday, it was time to gather the few belongings that we did not pack and hit the road. Orlando was the first leg of our trip. However, things got interesting when we could not find the cat. Read More…
Dream.Believe.Create

The steam floats lightly over a fresh brew. Conversation, creativity, and the blue notes of a smooth John Coltrane tune fill the atmosphere. The coffee scent weaves together with that old book smell. While reclining in a comfortable well-worn, leather chair, I will say it, “Life is good.” Do you know the feeling? It’s the feeling that says, “Everything is as it should be.” People live their lives trying to create that feeling. Chasing the “good life” is a race that we never seem to win. Someone once said it is like chasing after wind. Read More…
How did we decide to be church planters?
Posted by Nate Bush on Jul 08, 2009How did we decide to be church planters? Continually we have been asked this question. The short answer (a somewhat ethereal one), is that we believe that we were called to it.
It began with a “holy wrestling.” This is something like a feeling and something like a conviction. We sensed an urgency to move. To move toward something that God was calling us toward. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish God’s calling from indigestion, discontentment, or a random impulse. Read More…
Short Version of My Testimony
Posted by Nate Bush on Jul 01, 2009
I first heard about Jesus as a child at church. I got baptized to avoid the judgment of God. I was taught that God was really into rules and was eager to send me to Hell. I worked hard at being good hoping that I would not die having really blown it that day, believing that I would go to Heaven if I died on a day that I was good and Hell on a day that I was bad.
